Salter
Salter after Perry 1777
After Perry 1777
An unusual instrument, based on the work of Thomas Perry, one of Dublin’s finest luthiers. Recreated after careful analysis of LM1178 in the National Museum Dublin, this has ten strings in 5 courses, tuned in unison. One of very few instruments with bowed doubled strings, and featuring some of the earliest mechanical tuning machines, from William Gibson, another Dublin luthier.
This instrument was made with deep research into the tuning machines and Salter, comprising the focus of my dissertation/final year project for my BA at West Dean College.
Spruce front, maple neck, back and sides. Mother-of-pearl and black abalone shield. Veneered ebony fingerboard and tailpiece. Silver tailpiece shield and hook. Handmade brass tuning machines.
